Norwegian Bliss

CruiseCritic rates the Bliss 4 out of 5 stars, and the reviewer says the Bliss is a “beautiful vessel with a refined feel that you don’t normally find on a megaship. It feels like a big ship that's taken on the trappings of one that's smaller and more upscale.” They especially like the Observation Lounge, which dominates the entire forward section of the ship on Deck 15. Originally designed to serve as a focal point for cruisers during its Alaska sailings, its sole purpose is to serve as a space for cruisers to read, chat with new friends and even fall asleep. No games, lectures or seminars are held here. It doesn't transform into a nighttime disco. There's no stage for a small band to play. It’s truly just a lounge!

US News & World Report says the Bliss is the third best ship in Norwegian’s fleet. She has an elegant feel with upscale touches like those you’d find on a smaller luxury ship. The Observation Lounge is a perfect example of that.

Cruiseline.com raves about the adult only areas and the spa. They love the impressive activities and entertainment on board, and again site the balance of big ship qualities with small ship feel.

Itinerary

Our itinerary is a perfect blend of connecting, relaxing, and having fun together. Shortly after sailing out of L.A., we gather for a hosted Meet-n-Greet Party where you'll meet your fellow cruisers and start making new friends right away. Dinner with the whole group is next (we’ll have a whole section of the dining room reserved just for our group), followed by dancing, a show, or whatever you want to do—it’s your vacation!

Our first full day is a day at sea. Take all day to relax, unwind, and get into vacation-mode. Explore the ship. Maybe lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools. Perhaps find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active? Play bingo, work out at the gym, dance all night, shoot down the water slides, watch a movie, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on.

Millennia ago, Cabo San Lucas was part of the Mexican mainland. Then a massive rupture of the San Andreas Fault sent the waters of the Pacific crashing into the newly formed depression, creating the Sea of Cortez and the Baja Peninsula. Lying at the very tip of Baja is Cabo San Lucas or simply “Cabo.” This is one of the premier resort destinations in the Western Hemisphere. Swim the transparent waters, marvel at the wealth of marine life, relax on one of the white-sand beaches, or be more active with ocean kayaking or world-class sport fishing. Personally, though, I’ll be snorkeling—it’s the best on Mexico’s western shores.

“Mazatlan” means place of the deer, and sits on a peninsula at the feet of the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains. “Ice Box Hill” divides the Pacific beaches from the broad, white-sand beaches beloved by visitors. Pacifico Brewery, founded by German immigrants, produces one of Mexico’s premium beers here (and they offer tours…with free tasting!). Acapulco may be more famous, but Mazatlan has its share of dare-devils who dive into the Pacific Ocean from a rocky ledge 60 feet above the water. Thrilling to watch (and a bit scary, too). The local markets offer great Mexican crafts and other must-have bargains.

Once a sleepy fishing village, Puerto Vallarta is a huge international resort, and the most gay friendly city in Mexico. Back in the early 1960s, director John Huston chose the locale to film his now-famous “Night of the Iguana” with Richard Burton. Elizabeth Taylor accompanied him and…the rest is history! Great shopping, great water activities, great history, great cultural highlights and GREAT tequila—Puerto Vallarta is very near the heart of Mexico’s famous tequila industry. Tequila tasting is almost a requirement of disembarkation. Want a low key option? Hop a cab to the world famous Blue Chairs—very, very gay beach resort—for the day. I say “for the day” because you’ll want to just stay, I know.

Our next two days are at sea. Relax and enjoy your final vacation days. Lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools, or maybe even find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active on your last days? Ride the SkyRide or the water slides, play bingo, work out at the gym, dance all night, watch a movie, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on.

Yes, another relaxing (or exciting day) like the one before!

We sail back into L.A. at dawn. Disembark today with great memories, great pictures, and great new friends from your all-too-short vacation.See you again soon, I hope!

Daddy Cruise® FAQs

A:

The cost of the cruise covers your cabin, tons of food and beverages (excluding alcohol and soft drinks; you'll pay extra for those), all the Daddy Cruise® benefits, entertainment on board and so much more. There are additional things you'll want to budget for: travel protection insurance (I never travel without it); excursions (you're free to disembark in each port, but the experience is much better if you join an organized outing with us or the cruise line); transportation to and from the ship (flights, ground transfers); gratuities of $20 per person per day (for crew staff: housekeepers, waiters, etc.), and pre-cruise hotel (the ship will not wait for you if your flight is late for whatever reason, so I always recommend you arrive at least one day before).

A:

Cruise lines typically advertise cruise prices at half of what a cabin actually costs, assuming two will share the cabin (called "double occupancy"). If you sail solo, they will charge roughly double that advertised rate to cover the full cost of the cabin.

A:

Of course! While we cater to the LGBTQ community, our allies are always welcome!

A:

You're always welcome to participate as much, or as little as you like. No pressure from us to engage, no hassle if you opt to sit anything out! We'll be there to welcome and encourage you at whatever level of engagement feels right for you.

A:

Enjoy it! We will offer plenty of opportunities to connect with the rest of us, but nothing is required. Dine with us, or on your own, or with a friend, or even in your own cabin! Join one of our private excursions, or go with one offered by the cruise line, or explore a port on your own, or stay on board. It's your vacation—spend it however you like!

A:

Ships are designed to minimize this, and there are several ways you can minimize that risk even more: from patches you wear, to pills you take, to even the location of your cabin on the ship (which can make a difference!). Those who do get seasick experience minor discomfort and find bed rest (maybe catching up on a movie in your room?) helps.

A:

Absolutely not! Large, all-gay cruises have a reputation for this, but we'll be on a regular ship with a thousand other guests of all persuasions. You're certainly welcome to hook up with others if you want to, discreetly of course.

A:

Typically, most of our guests are middle aged or senior gay men, but a lot of younger guys join us as well. All races are represented, as are all genders and those of varying physical abilities. Allies (non-LGBTQ people) are also very welcome.
