Star Princess

We sail on the Star Princess. This ship is under construction right now—yes, that’s how new she’ll be when we sail her! She’s a sister of the Sun Princess, which got 4 out of 5 stars from Cruise Critic. They laud the innovation—offering a complete re-imagining of the Princess brand. Cabins are “much improved especially the more spacious bathrooms and larger balconies.” I can’t wait to check it out!

Itinerary

Our itinerary is a perfect blend of casual, educational, and thrilling. As we sail out of Seattle this afternoon, we'll gather for a hosted Meet-n-Greet Party where you'll meet your fellow cruisers and start making new friends right away. Then, softly we slip into the Puget Sound before the expansive Pacific Ocean.

Our first full day is a day at sea. Take all day to relax, unwind, and get into vacation-mode. Explore the ship. Maybe lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools. Perhaps find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active? Play bingo, work out at the gym, dance all night, shoot down the water slides, watch a movie, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on...

Our first port in Alaska is its most quaint and alluring: Ketchikan. Here you’ll be intrigued by its rich Native heritage, which includes the world’s oldest collection of totem poles at the Totem Heritage Center. The town itself has fantastic boutique shops, bars and restaurants; much is built on stilts over the shore. Nearby is sport fishing, nature galore, cultural shows (including a Lumberjack Show that is sure to amaze), and the freshest salmon you’ll ever taste!

Today, wake up adrift in glacier country! A National Park Service Ranger will join us for the day to give commentary on all the sights and sounds around you. You’ll likely spot bald eagles, seals, bears and whales on our way to see the centerpiece: tidewater glaciers. Here, you’ll likely see (and hear!) the glaciers expel enormous chunks of ice into the waters below (called “calving”). You’ll sail past floating icebergs (cue a “My Heart Will Go On” sing-along), and rest at different spots for the best views of the glaciers, waterfalls too numerous to be named, and the abundant wildlife all around you. You may view from upper public decks, but this is one day you’ll be especially glad if you have your own private balcony!

This afternoon, we approach the only state capital in the USA that cannot be reached by land: Juneau. You’ll have the rest of the day to explore Alaska’s small but vibrant capital. You can literally walk to Mendenhall Glacier and stand before it in awe and wonderment. Dogsledding, glacier flightseeing, and Mount Roberts Tramway are all options in this too-much-to-do-in-just-one-day port.

Our last stop is in Skagway, the gateway to gold fields over 100 years ago. At one time over 20,000 people lived here, now less than 1,000. But it retains the flavor of the gold rush era. You can relive those gold rush days at the Red Onion Saloon (Skagway’s most notorious bordello, now turned restaurant/bar) or ride the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. Or get more active horseback riding, dogsledding, ziplining, or even wild-river rafting!

Yes, after so much excitement, you’ll be ready for another day to rest up at sea! Relax, unwind and enjoy your vacation mode. Lounge on your private balcony or near one of the pools, or maybe even find a quiet nook to settle in with a book. Want to be more active on your day at sea? Play bingo, work out at the gym, watch a movie, dance all night, attend a cooking seminar, soak in a hot tub, watch a sunset (or a sunrise), play trivia games, sing along at the piano bar, do some wine tasting, check your email or surf the internet, grab a snack, watch live entertainment, get lucky in the casino, indulge in a spa treatment, catch the game in the sports bar, and on and on...

Another almost-full day at sea for more fun, but then a surprise! This evening we make a bonus call in lovely Victoria, Canada. Victoria exudes old-world charm. The city is renowned for its beautiful gardens (but fragrant and colorful flowers are everywhere!), cute houses, a happening restaurant and pub scene, and impressive Craigdarrogh Castle. Everything has such a decidedly British feel! We’ll be here until midnight, so maybe enjoy dinner ashore!

When we get back to Seattle, you'll have enjoyed great fun, had memorable experiences, and made new friends on your all-too-short vacation. See you again soon, I hope!

We’ll help you experience fewer unexpected expenses, fewer unpleasant surprises, and fewer travel missteps.

You’ll feel safe with our large LGBTQ group both on board, and in port. Our host ship, the Star Princess, is welcoming, and our private tours are sensitive to the special needs of the LGBTQ traveler.

Daddy Cruise® FAQs

A:

The cost of the cruise covers your cabin, tons of food and beverages (excluding alcohol and soft drinks—you’ll pay extra for those), all the Daddy Cruise benefits, entertainment on board and so much more. There are additional things you’ll want to budget for: travel protection insurance (I never travel without it); excursions (you’re free to disembark in each port, but the experience is much better if you join an organized outing with us or the cruise line); transportation to/from the ship (flights, ground transfers); gratuities of $19/person/day (for crew staff: housekeepers, waiters, etc.), and pre-cruise hotel (the ship will not wait for you if your flight is late for whatever reason, so I always recommend you arrive at least one day before).

A:

Cruise lines typically advertise cruise prices at half of what a cabin actually costs. They assume that two will share the cabin (called “double occupancy”) and each will pay that fare. If you sail solo, they will charge more (up to double that advertised rate) to cover the full cost of the cabin. Contact us to learn Princess’s exact single rate.

A:

Of course! While we cater to the LGBTQ community, our allies are always welcome!

A:

You’re always welcome to participate as much, or as little as you like. No pressure from us to engage, no hassle if you opt to sit anything out! We’ll be there to welcome and encourage you at whatever level of engagement feels right for you.

A:

Enjoy it! We will offer plenty of opportunities to connect with the rest of us, but nothing is required. Dine with us, or on your own, or with a friend, or even in your cabin! Join one of our private excursions, or go with one offered by the cruise line, or explore a port on your own, or stay on board. It’s your vacation—spend it however you like!

A:

Ships are designed to minimize this, and there are several ways you can minimize that risk even more: from patches you wear, to pills you take, to even the location of your cabin on the ship (which can make a difference!). Those who do get seasick experience minor discomfort and find bed rest (maybe catching up on a movie in your room?) helps.

A:

Absolutely not! Large, all-gay cruises have a reputation for this, but we’ll be on a regular ship with a thousand other guests of all persuasion. You’re certainly welcome to hook up with others if you want to, discreetly of course.

A:

Typically, most of our guests are middle aged or senior gay men, but a lot of younger guys join us as well. All races are represented, as are all genders and those of varying physical abilities. Allies (non-LGBTQ people) are always welcome.

Tendering to the next adventure!
